The Wonders of Skin Icing

I learned my current favorite skin care regimen from a priest. Yes, you heard that right!

When I was young, we used to spend parts of our summer vacation with a family friend who happened to be a priest. One morning, I saw him rubbing ice on his face. At that moment, my mom and I noticed how nice and young looking his skin was. He explained he'd been following this unorthodox routine for years.

A few weeks ago, I was so tired, and it was so hot outside. I got an ice cube from the freezer and rubbed it on my face. I saw how skin glowed after; even up to the morning after.  That was when I was reminded of skin icing and I have decided to keep this in my daily routine.

My skin has visibly improved ever since I started doing this.

One of the many benefits of skin icing is it helps make the skin younger looking and I love it!

For months now, I have been looking at led face masks, jade rollers and other beauty gadgets on different online shopping sites. The lines and wrinkles on my face have become more visible and I was bothered by them, but I couldn’t bring myself to purchase a non-essential item during the pandemic.

Needless to say, I am glad I got reminded of this beauty hack. Who would have thought that the best solution to my beauty problem is in the freezer? The best part of it is that it is almost free, extremely easy and natural.

I rub the ice directly on my face in a circular motion. Most beauty sites I visited recommend to wrap the ice cube in soft clothes. However, others do it by plunging their faces in a bowl of ice water.

The cool temperature of the ice cube tightens the skin, thereby reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also smoothens the skin, improves its tone and gives an overall glow.

Ice cubes also enhance product absorption so I started rubbing an ice cube after applying my moisturizers and serums at night. When I wake up, I rub ice again on my face to wake up my skin and my body. That helps a lot in de-puffing my eyes, especially after a night of binge-watching my favorite movies or television series.

I also read online that ice cubes are good makeup primers. I don’t wear makeup these days because most of the time, I am at home and only go out to buy food or attend important meetings, and in these rare circumstances, I wear both a face mask and a face shield.

However, it is nice to know that this simple method is also good to do before applying makeup because it reduces the appearance of pores under the foundation.

If I get lucky this summer and have the chance to visit the beach, an ice cube should also come in handy not just for our drinks, but also to treat sunburns. Ice can get rid of the redness and inflammation due to sun exposure.

Next, I'd like to try freezing ice with rose water, cucumber juice, lemon, coffee, and green tea. I read these ingredients also work wonders. Rose acts as a toner, cucumber is probably good to rub under the eyes, lemon can blur dark spots, coffee uplifts tiredness and green tea has anti-aging benefits.

So there you go! For livelier and more radiant skin, ice away!
